Description

Jesus Christ is a provocative, uncompromising teacher. Yet it is easy to become so accustomed to Jesus' words that they become old friends - comfortable, unfamiliar, unchallenging. We get so used to him that we forget to take notice of what he commands us to do.

Jesus demands serious obedience from his people in all areas of life. Here he challenges us about crucial issues - loving enemies, forgiveness, sex, ambition, adultery, wealth accumulation, revenge, impending judgement, resolving tension between Christians and self-delusion.

His words come across as fresh, immediate, wise, authentic and discerning. Listen to him again - and this time, don't let him go unheeded.

Endorsements

"David Cook takes as his starting point the question, how much influence does Christ's teaching actually have on his disciples? Inevitably, therefore this is not a comfortable book, but it nevertheless a comforting one, in that while David Cooks insists that we can't just ignore the challenges of Jesus' teaching, he also gives a lot of creative ideas of how we can obey it. Nor does he write from a position of ‘I've got it sorted: now rest of you can catch me up'. He admits to failings and struggles - including the -including the difficulties Christians have in relating to other Christians they don't agree with. This is an excellent book: buy it for yourself and read it."

Keswick Convention

... Cook says that the one who hears the Word and puts it into practice is wise, while the one who hears does not, in prayerful dependence on God, is self deceived. Are we so familiar with the words of Jesus that we fail to obey His commands? This little book, simply written, is a real challenge to all of us, of whatever age. Let us not rob God of his glory.
