"Catherine Mackenzie gives readers a brief overview of the important events in John Calvin’s life. Filled with turns, Calvin’s life was a constant battle against the obstacles that Satan threw in his path. Mackenzie shows the difficulty of each trial with incredible detail, and gives readers an understanding of the turmoil, and danger of John Calvin’s life.I particularly like Mackenzie’s way of describing Calvin’s early years. It was a hard time for young Calvin: his mother died before he turned five, he went off to a university at age thirteen, and had to battle through homesickness, and his constantly changing life. The author really gave me a picture of what it was like, to decide to change universities, his pressure from his father, and numerous other things."
