Through all the unusual and confusing turns of Ezekiel’s account, John L. Mackay provides a scholarly treatment of the Old Testament prophet, without losing a sense of reverence and devotion towards the God Ezekiel served. Offering great depths of exegesis and great warmth of pastoral insight, these two exhaustive volumes are aimed at the pastor and student.

I warmly commend and welcome this excellent commentary on Ezekiel. Professor Mackay, an Old Testament and Hebrew specialist, has provided us with a readable but rich, competent commentary on the biblical text. His extended introduction is also valuable and a necessary read for grappling with the text of Ezekiel.

It is a believing work, affirming divine inspiration from the outset, and thus refreshing and vital. It is a comprehensive work; relentless, yet still accessible. This is not just another commentary; it takes its place amongst the best.
Jared Hood
Old Testament Lecturer, Presbyterian Theological College, Melbourne
The commentary is marked by considerable scholarship with judicious comment on the relevant literature. It is also very readable. Pastoral and practical concerns are handled sensitively. Don’t be tempted to ignore the introductory material which is as lucid an account as I have read of Ezekiel’s life and times and a fascinating discussion of the relationship of the Spirit of God and the human personality.
