Description
The next instalment in this collection of ground–breaking insights into the minor prophets.
God’s Daring Dozen is the first children’s picture book series ever published on the minor prophets. The twelve books between Daniel and Matthew are unfamiliar to many believers, so this series accurately introduces these inspired writings with vivid images and simple words that engage children and adults alike. Each volume both retells the prophet’s message to his original audience and relates its rich truths to Jesus and God’s people today.
This second boxed set contains:
The first set includes Haggai, Habakkuk, Zephaniah and Obadiah, and the final set will include Hosea, Amos, Micah, and Zechariah.
God’s Daring Dozen delivers enduring messages that are very much relevant today. These biblically faithful, theologically rich, gospel–centered books teach truth, promote virtue, and inspire faith in God and in His Son. The minor prophets offer major lessons for all ages, and their timeless truths are now shared in story book form for the very first time!
Endorsements
Here is a series that introduces small children to the world and words of biblical prophets. These books fill a large gap in the Christian nurture of young children.
Duane A. Garrett
John R. Sampey Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky
Brian’s and John’s presentation of these undervalued books captures their messages in ways that young readers can grasp and very smoothly weaves them into the larger fabric of the Gospel. An excellent tool for helping children grasp and retain the Gospel as promised in these Old Testament books.
Daniel C. Timmer
Director and Professor of Biblical Studies, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan and author of Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Tyndale Old Testament Commentary 26
With bright illustrations and lots of animal pictures, God’s Daring Dozen provides a fun and helpful way to increase biblical literacy and open some less familiar parts of Scripture to young listeners.
The Gospel Coalition
The “God’s Daring Dozen” book sets:
- Encourage biblical literacy
- Make the minor prophets accessible
- Fill a big gap in the children’s publishing industry by sharing about stories your child may not have read before
These books help kids learn about lesser known Bible characters and the lessons we can learn from them.
You’ll find lots of quotations in these books because many of them are truly just paraphrases of the biblical text. Depending on the book, it can be told more like a story summary (Hosea, Jonah, etc.) while others are almost entirely a paraphrase chapter by chapter (Nahum).
These books stress the importance of the whole Bible, not only in their subject content of sharing the minor prophets but also in their inclusion of the full story: for instance in Jonah, many other children’s books end with Jonah delivering the message to the Ninevites and their repentance but this one also includes what happens after the message where Jonah is angry at God in his encounter at the shaded plant.
One note: the pastor at my church has comedically said in sermon recently “you won’t find this in a children’s book or a veggie tales episode” when teaching on difficult passage… These ones challenge that statement with lots of depictions of God’s judgment, people’s sin, etc. that I would recommend a pre–read to make sure you determine an appropriate age in your home.
I received a review copy of this set. All opinions are my own.

What a great resource for families! Kids’ books on individual books of the Bible. True to Scripture and accessible to little ones. I can’t wait to read these to my own children.
