A Gospel man with a kind and gentle disposition has been called home. While this is sore and difficult for us, we are to remember the prayer of the Lord Jesus in John 17:24, “Father I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory”. John’s encouragement of all who knew him, particularly in the Christian book trade in the UK and further afield, was an example to us and will continue to be so.
John adapted to the changing scene in our industry and had a constant burden for those affected by the closing of their bookstores. He ministered to many in these challenges with a quiet and unique sense of humour. His love for his work was borne out of his love for the Lord Jesus and a realisation of the potential life changing impact of a Christian book. Yes, John knew and loved his customers; he knew and loved his books; but our comfort is that he knew and loved his Lord. Our Lord has promised that there will be “fruit following”.
Yes, John knew and loved his customers; he knew and loved his books; but our comfort is that he knew and loved his Lord.
As a company and individually we cherish with thankfulness his contribution to our fellowship and ministry. For 30 years John (the Scot) understood our mindset, and living in London and the South he identified with and understood his friends in all corners.
Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s dear wife Susan and nine children. A lovely smile of joy was on John’s face when he would humbly share something of their family activities. We believe he continues to smile as he now knows the fulfilment of Psalm 107:30:
“Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven”.
