This past Tuesday marked the one hundred year anniversary of the launching of the Titanic in Belfast, Northern Ireland on May 31, 1911. It was only ten and a half months later that the Titanic, the ship that would never be sunk, a ship of dreams - became a ship of nightmares as it was swallowed beneath the freezing Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage to New York City. Hit by a massive iceberg, the tragedy of the Titanic on April 14th, 1912 was an event that hit the newspaper headlines of its day and is still remembered many years later.
1,517 people perished that night but there was at least one man who was focused on saving souls amidst the horror. As the icy waters brought the life of John Harper to a close he still had the energy to call one final person to come to Christ. This is a story of tragedy but it is also a story of faith and courage and eternal hope.
