In the Christian life we are called to live in obedience to the truth found in God's word. While in our hearts and minds we may know this is true, many of us would just as soon hear a message on obedience as we would an entire sermon series on why we need to tithe more. Truth be told, obedience is difficult. The reality of the situation is that there is often a vast dichotomy between what we know God's word calls us to do and what we are actually doing. Even though obedience is hard, we need not despair, but rather turn to the encouragement that is found in God's word. One such book that draws on this encouragement is David W. Hegg's new book, The Obedience Option: Because God knows what's good for us. Relying heavily on Paul's letter to the Ephesians, The Obedience Option demonstrates that choosing to obey God is clearly the best choice we can make, because whatever God has in store for us through obedience is far superior to any of the fleeting delights the world has to offer.
