Description

John Oak, senior pastor of one of the largest Presbyterian churches in the world, suggests that the Holy Spirit initiates a certain amount of unrest and turmoil within the church in order for it to function as salt and light in the world.

Putting it positively, lay people are the best and the greatest potential the church has. Negatively, lay people are a serious challenge for the church if not mobilized. The answer to which perspective will prevail lies in the hands of church leaders. Rediscovering the biblical role of the laity demands a radical remodelling of the old framework of ministry.

Reformation is not an easy process to initiate or complete. It can place a heavy burden on a church leader if the laity are not fully involved in the process.

Reviews

"The people of the church are not called to assist pastors in their ministry. Rather pastors are called to assist the people in their ministry. While written in the context of a mega-church, the discipleship model of leadership development is timeless, and timely, applicable to a church of a hundred or a thousand."

R. Paul Stevens, Regent College, Vancouver

‘John Oak is one of the outstanding leaders in the church today. Sarang Community Church is huge and still growing; and it is also solidly orthodox and Reformed. I commend this book to any individual who desires to understand the biblical principles of building a church.’

Samuel Logan, President, Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia

“An outstanding manual on discipleship. God has used the principles in this book to build a church that is both balanced and healthy, not just large.”

Rick Warren, Saddleback Church, California
