For younger children, Penny Reeve, a missionary to Nepal, has written a four book Find the Animal series. Each book is 16 pages long with limited text focusing on amazing things about a certain animal. The animal is hidden in each picture with only certain parts visible. The child tries to guess what the animal is as each page is turned. The book concludes by stating that as amazing as this animal is, God is even greater. The book in the series which I have seen is God Made Something Strong. In this book, the animal is an elephant and the characteristics of strength and greatness are emphasized. The book is light and fun helps describe the strength of God to a child by stating that while an elephant is certainly big and strong, God is even stronger!
Ray van Neste
"This short book seeks to introduce pre-school children to one aspect of God's character - his strength. As the parent and child explore the delightful colour illustrations, spotting different parts of the mystery animal, the narrative and Bible verses describe the strength of God and his creative power. The book conludes with a prayer of thanks for Jesus' love and strength; oh, and also reveals the mystery animal!"
Neil R Jacobson, CLC Book Reviews
These are great books for use with infants to early childhood readers due to their bright illustrations and interactive text. Teachers' Notes for the series are now available on the author's website to support teachers use of the books in early primary classrooms.
